MEMORIES OF EARTH
When the end came for the ancients, it came in a hot, bright, flash. As for who started it and why, we may never know. Those left behind endured a black winter that lasted for years. When the dust finally settled and the snow melted, few of us had survived to tell the story of the days before we left. Food was scarce, and so was safe water. Few things survived the end when it came. Those that did not adapt were killed by disease, hunger, thirst, or radiation. When we ourselves began to change, we were at first fearful of those changes and what they could do. Those who changed were exiled from their clans. Some were destroyed because they were feared for their new abilities. As the years passed into centuries, we began to explore the ancient ruins to see what could be salvaged. It took several more decades before we finally began to form any coherent form of government. There were several small feuds that erupted between clans with different beliefs. Once we began to peacefully settle our disputes we once more became advanced. We were finally able once more to travel to the stars. Within a thousand years, we once again had to adapt. The scientists had discovered that the Earth's' core was unstable, and that it could cause the Earth to become uninhabitable. We were forced to put all of our resources into building giant, city sized, star ships for them. Ten of them were built by the end of twelve years. The drive systems, fuel, and our life support took up most of the space. When it came time to leave, some had to stay behind. The decisions were logically made. We did not think that anything lived very long after we left. We had stripped the planet of all useable resources to build our ships. Three weeks ago, we were attacked by a group of ships that came from the long abandoned Earth. We are now arming for war, and launching a small, unarmed vessel to try and negotiate peace. We can not allow ourselves to die like they did. Hopefully the humans will understand that we robots had to survive. If not, too bad. The humans would have been proud of our peaceful society of robots.
